Baby Carriers

Baby Infant carriers are beneficial to both your baby and you. It exposes them to the world while they are still securely attached and therefore comforted by you. But at the same time, it makes your life as a parent or caregiver so much easier as it enables you to keep your hands free to do all the other things on your list for the day. If you are at this site, you probably already believe that there are numerous benefits to carrying your baby. The dilemma is usually which baby carrier should I choose?

SLINGS If we start with the oldest style of infant carrier, the baby slings, you will see this style being used for centuries across many different cultures. There are so many different carrying positions and ways to tie your sling so that it is comfortable for both you and your baby. Slings are also a great way to discretely breastfeed and the material can be versatile and come in use in many other ways. This style of infant carrier is great for a slower pace lifestyle or for home use.

BABY FRONT CARRIERS Baby front carriers are definitely more structured than the sling. They too can be used from birth to toddlers. Some people believe these carriers can be less versatile because you can really only hold the baby in 1 position.  However, there are many front carriers now that show how you can use them to hip carry and even put them on your back. Also, with the modern diaper bag and the need to carry everything including the kitchen sink… the front carriers are a lot more compact and easier to put on than the sling style carriers. This style of infant carrier is great for the urbanite, fast pace, no messing around lifestyle. It can be used both at home, on the road, and despite its name, it can be used on the back as well as the front.

BABY BACKPACK CARRIERS The Baby backpack carriers are usually more suitable for babies that are at least 6 months in age as they generally need to be able to hold up their necks and head. They don’t provide enough support in the spine for the newborn stage. However, the benefits of carrying a baby in a backpack carrier are huge once they hit that age as babies are just learning to explore and it enables them to view the world while still being comforted by your presence. Also, carrying your older baby on your back helps to reduce the strain on your back and joints. This style of infant carrier is the best for hiking, walking and trips where you don’t mind packing a slightly larger carrier with you.

QUESTIONS TO ASK YOURSELF BEFORE BUYING There are just so many different baby infant carriers to choose from. Some of the questions you should ask yourself is what are you going to be using it mostly for? Will the age or weight range of the carrier suit your needs? If you are sharing the carrier with your partner, will this style fit both of you? How easy is it to use? And lastly, do you like the look?

Often times it isn’t just one carrier, but a combination of different carriers for different situations or stages. Also, once you have found the perfect style, you then have to choose either a pattern or color. Definitely put a little thought into it as you want it to be something you will use over and over again.
